About Me
  •

Han Luo is a magician and photographer who currently lives in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. His repertoire ranges from close-up magic, to stage magic, to portrait photographs of strangers and portrait photographs of his wife and him. Both his artworks performed in magic and illustrated in photography are highly interactive with his spectators. While what his magic tries to deliver is quite intentional, what the photographs he presents conveys varies depending on the interpretation of different spectators.

On the one hand, through his magic performance at TEDx events, universities like Harvard, MIT and the like, television studios, or even on the streets, Han strives to guide his audiences into a world of amazement and amusement via sleights of hand he has long been practicing and sophisticated set-ups he would engineer for every show. Most importantly, the interaction with spectators is the key to his performance. The reason lies in the fact that Han is quite convinced that only when the spectators are positioned as proactive participants can they wholehearted enjoy the performance. Further, the spectators will truly become an indispensable part of the performance once the chemical interaction takes place, and the mental image Han attempts to fabricate in the spectators’ minds will eventually take shape. As a result, what Han tries to pass to the spectators will be fully delivered.

Unlike what he does in his magic performance, on the other hand, Han has no desire at all to transmit any particular or specific information or knowledge to any other people through the photographs he takes. On the contrary, what Han aspires to do in the realm of photography is to transform the photographs he takes, along with the captions accompanying the photographs, into a path through which the spectators could arrive at distinct destinations depending on their own varied experiences. In other words, the orated stories and thoughts that caption each and every single one of the photographs serve as embodied records that facilitate people’s understandings, through their various different lenses, of certain groups of people or certain types of environment we all are living in.

Evidently, Han’s academic background of being a Social Sciences major has contributed greatly to his endeavors in performance and photography, and all kinds of discussions and exchanges of ideas are highly encouraged and welcome. Send a massage if you’d like to do so, and you will be replied!
